Coffea arabica, a coffee tree, is a shrub plant with multiple slender and ribbed leaves. In its early years, the coffee tree has the appearance of a classic green plant and as it ages it quietly becomes a shrub. Its ever-changing Zen appearance made coffea arabica one of the most versatile indoor plants.

The location:

The coffee tree loves the sun, but should not be directly under the sun’s rays. A window that receives the morning sun is ideal. It is one of the best plants if you want to see it grow and evolve.

Temperature:

Of African origin, the coffee tree tolerates the heat well. For optimal growth, a temperature between 15 and 25°C (59 to 77°F) is recommended. Thus, the temperature of a house or apartment is ideal.

Watering:

During the summer and spring, the coffee tree should be watered regularly, but moderately, ideally watering when the soil is dry on the surface. During the winter, preferably wait until the soil is dry for a few centimeters before watering again. It is advisable to water the coffee tree with water at room temperature earlier than too cold water, thus avoiding to induce unnecessary stress to the shrub.

Repotting:

Repotting is essential if you want your plant to bloom again. The older and larger the plant, the more repotting is needed. In the early stages, repotting every 2 or 3 years is enough. Then it depends on the size of the shrub. When repotting, choose a pot with a slightly larger diameter and make sure that the bottom of the pot is pierced. Be careful, repotting in a pot that is too large will cause the roots to get lost in the soil and the plant may die.
